So here we are...The clock is ticking...We're inside eight hours until the Savannah Snowpocalypse or the Southern Snowmaggedon...Working in news, you know every big event that gets people geeked up has to have a big name...We love the hype...
I have to admit that it's been somewhat entertaining to see how excited people have been getting leading up to this afternoon's/evening's winter storm event...That includes me...It's such a rare weather treat to even talk about snow falling and sticking around for a few hours...If the projections are correct, most of us should at least get a dusting of snow, and a lot of people will see one to four inches of snow depending on where you live in the Coastal Empire and Low Country...
While working in Alabama, I saw my share of snow and ice storms...Here in Georgia though, snow has been as rare as spotting Big Foot...The last significant snow I recall was December 1989...I remember being home in Blackshear on Christmas break from Georgia Southern when we were blanketed with around three inches of snow...In the Jones house, it was dubbed The Great Snow of '89...Remember, every big event needs a name...
Speaking of snow...Did you see this clip I featured as a viral video the other night on Fox 28 News at 10??? A meteorologist in the DC/Baltimore area went nuts with his forecast...
It is hilarious...Click here to watch it...
So make your plans to be outside tonight or early tomorrow morning and enjoy our changing winter landscape...You don't want to miss it...Who knows how long it'll be before the snow falls on us again...
Let's flake out, have some fun and stay safe during the snowball fights...Make some good memories of the Southern Snowmaggedon with your family...
Enjoy your winter weekend...
