News people and felines are a lot alike...The four-legged and two-legged creatures are curious, mischievous, cautious, sleepy, sometimes crazy and, of course, predators...
Many of you know I am not a big fan of cats...The exceptions are kittens and extremely large, lazy cats...While I am a dog person by nature, cats are sometimes okay...Here comes the rest of the story...
A few weeks ago, I saw a facebook posting and photographs from Sue Madden-Gallion...She has four feral cats that hang around her Signs by Design shop on Wilmington Island...She asked what she should name the cats...So I indulged by news narcissism and chimed in with the suggestion 'how about Casey?'...One cat looked a lot like one we had as a family pet many years ago...A few other people posted suggestions about names, too...I didn't think much else about it...
After dropping by to see Lisa Scarbrough and the crew from Coastal Pet Rescue during an adoption drive at Ace Hardware on Wilmington Island, I decided to pop in and see Sue while I was in the neighborhood...This is what I saw when I pulled up in front of her store...

I was quite surprised...There's Casey (me), Frankie (Frank Sulkowski/The Big Guy), Fairbanks (Lynn Fairbanks/General Manager) and Jesse (Jesse Blanco/Fox 28 Anchor)...That certainly covers WJCL/Fox 28...You can see all the cats that now carry our names...

The cats are part of The Milton Project...It's a program operated through Coastal Pet Rescue...Volunteers trap, spay or neuter and then return the cats to their areas...Here's an interesting tidbit of information I saw on the flier for The Milton Project: left alone for seven years, two cats can produce 420,000 cats...The group also estimates there are 50,000 feral cats in Savannah...
I certainly hope curiosity doesn't lead our namesakes into trouble where they have to cash in one of their nine lives...We want to see Casey, Frankie, Fairbanks and Jesse stay safe...I guess that is also a good wish for the human news crew at Abercorn and Television Circle...So when you stop by to see Sue, look around, and you might have a chance to say hey to the furry news crew, too...

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! No, I am not suffering from calendar confusion...I realize it is March and not December...However, I think a lot of us feel like children on Christmas morning...We are anxious because we know something big is about to happen...You can just feel something in the air...You know St. Patrick's Day is coming... We spring forward with the time this weekend...That just gets us one hour closer to the 186th edition of Savannah's St. Patrick's Day parade...I'll gladly give up an hour of sleep for that...I suspect this year will be a little different since the big day falls on a Wednesday...St. Patrick's Day takes on a different dynamic when it falls mid-week...But make no mistake boys and girls, it is still going to be a great time... While we often see drunken revelry on River Street with people guzzling green beer (not that there's anything wrong with that), that is not what the day is about...The day is all about family...You see that when you watch the parade...You see large families of 30-40 people or more walking or riding in cars or on floats during the three hour parade...Along the route, you see three and four generations of families gathered in squares and on curbs to watch all things Irish...Those are the spots they've gathered for years...It's a day, time and moment to celebrate history and heritage and share and the laughter and love of family...Grand marshal Denny Herb decided to make family, friends and faith his theme for this year's celebration...That's a great choice in my book... Once again this year, I will be one of the hosts for our parade coverage which begins at 10 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day...If you can't make it down to watch the parade in person, I hope you will join us for our live coverage on Wednesday... If you have never witnessed the Greening of the Fountain, I suggest you maybe take your lunch break a little early on Friday, March 12th...Get there a little early to get a good spot at the fence so you will have a great view...It happens at high noon in Forsyth Fountain.. Then on Saturday, be sure to head down to Emmet Park on the east end of Bay Street for Tara Feis...It's a day of family friendly entertainment, singing, dancing, games and activities Back to the Greening of the Fountain...It is so entertaining to watch the pageantry and parade of green coats under the moss covered oak trees...Then there is the moment the grand marshal and others on the parade committee begin pouring dye into the water....The transition happens quickly...As the water goes from clear to green, that is just another reminder to me that Irish eyes are smiling on Savannah...Yes, this is the most wonderful time of the year!!!

More than two weeks after Punxsutawney Phil crawled out his burrow, Eldrick "Tiger" Woods emerged from three months of seclusion to step into the national limelight looking to take his first step on the road to redemption. There won't be an early spring for Mr. Woods. I believe the dark winter of doubt and discontent will last a lot longer.
I admit I did not like this staged media spectacle. Tiger's handlers called it a news conference, but you're not taking any questions and invite only select journalists to sit, listen and keep their mouths shut? The conditions of Tiger Woods making this statement added another layer of sleaziness to this sordid sex scandal. This was Tiger's version of don't ask, don't tell.
At 11:02 a.m., Tiger popped out from behind the blue curtain and stepped up to the microphone to read a carefully crafted statement. I suspect Team Tiger's public relations machine most likely spent weeks massaging each and every word. In this cold, controlled and sterile environment, Tiger stuck to the script. There were very few times I sensed emotion in his voice and facial expressions. He often appeared robotic and subdued. Tiger's mom was among the chosen few in the room to watch and listen, but there was no sign of Elin. His wife would not be there for a Stand By Your Man media moment.
America loves celebrities and sports heroes. Tiger's fall from grace is not the first, and he certainly won't be the last. We are also the land of second, third and fourth chances. The journey back from public scorn and disappointment begins with the public confession. While we got that during Tiger's 14 minute prepared statement, I firmly believe you have to stand there and take the questions. I'm not saying you have to answer them, but reporters certainly have the right to ask about those admitted transgressions and how the scandal impacts his golf career. Like it or not Tiger, you are a public figure that millions of people around the world have paid to watch you play golf and bought the products you endorse. Have a conversation with us. Overall, I thought he did a nice job with his apology, but I believe it could've been so much more by having an actual news conference and taking questions.
I believe he said all the right things during his statement. Tiger admitted everyone has the right to be critical and called his irresponsible behavior selfish and foolish. He knows he has caused a lot of people a lot of pain and let down family, friends and fans. Tiger explained how he is the only person to blame and begged the media to leave his wife and children alone (I say amen to that). The world's best golfer promised to work hard to have people believe in him again. Woods then made it clear that he understands people have questions, but he stressed these matters are between husband and wife. Some people argue that all this is none of our business, and that is simply a private family matter. Others only care about finding out when Tiger is going to tee it up again. The date for that round remains unknown.
In the end, Tiger stepped off the stage, embraced his mother, shook a few hands and disappeared behind the blue curtain. When will we see him again? No one knows for certain.
In the wake of the scandal, Tiger's shadow is long and dark. The questions aren't going away anytime soon. Mr. Woods can slow some of the frenzy of his personal Groundhog Day by taking a few questions. It now appears he is returning to the burrow far away from cameras and reporters.
Eldrick "Tiger" Woods will emerge again one day. When he does, he certainly won't be alone. The media will be there waiting on him. For now, we just wait for the next chapter in what has turned into a scandalous Tiger Tale.

So here we are...The clock is ticking...We're inside eight hours until the Savannah Snowpocalypse or the Southern Snowmaggedon...Working in news, you know every big event that gets people geeked up has to have a big name...We love the hype...
I have to admit that it's been somewhat entertaining to see how excited people have been getting leading up to this afternoon's/evening's winter storm event...That includes me...It's such a rare weather treat to even talk about snow falling and sticking around for a few hours...If the projections are correct, most of us should at least get a dusting of snow, and a lot of people will see one to four inches of snow depending on where you live in the Coastal Empire and Low Country...
While working in Alabama, I saw my share of snow and ice storms...Here in Georgia though, snow has been as rare as spotting Big Foot...The last significant snow I recall was December 1989...I remember being home in Blackshear on Christmas break from Georgia Southern when we were blanketed with around three inches of snow...In the Jones house, it was dubbed The Great Snow of '89...Remember, every big event needs a name...
Speaking of snow...Did you see this clip I featured as a viral video the other night on Fox 28 News at 10??? A meteorologist in the DC/Baltimore area went nuts with his forecast... It is hilarious...Click here to watch it...
So make your plans to be outside tonight or early tomorrow morning and enjoy our changing winter landscape...You don't want to miss it...Who knows how long it'll be before the snow falls on us again...
Let's flake out, have some fun and stay safe during the snowball fights...Make some good memories of the Southern Snowmaggedon with your family...
Enjoy your winter weekend...

In classrooms all across the country and in communities from coast to coast, adults and children are taking part in various programs during February in observance of Black History month.
During these 28 days, added attention is paid to African Americans who made a mark on our lives and created historic change. It's a chance for all of us to learn, remember and appreciate the contributions of so many people.
There's plenty to see here in Savannah. I suggest you stop by the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum for a tour.
Take a look at some of these eye-catching images and words of inspiration created by The Art of Manliness website. Here is a quick look at a few of them. You can click here to see more of the motivational posters from The Art of Manliness.

Watching all the heartbreak in Haiti is just getting to be too much...
While there have been a few inspiring moments for hope over the last several days with some amazing rescues from the rubble, the big picture there is a bad one...Optimism begins to fade and replaced with grim reality...Haiti's government expects the death toll will eventually climb to 200,000...Most of the survivors probably did not have much to begin with, and now they have even less...
I simply can't imagine the true magnitude of the devastation...Seeing it on television is one thing, but these natural disasters have to be witnessed on the ground and in person to truly comprehend the monumental loss of life and property...I experienced that first hand in Homestead, Florida, covering the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew...Then there was catastrophic flooding in Albany, Georgia, and the widespread damage caused by an F-5 tornado in Birmingham...Those images stay with me...I can't imagine the horrifying scenes the people of Port-au-Prince and search and rescue teams are seeing...
We are fortunate to be living in the United States where infrastructure and response are so much better than what we see in most parts of the world...
So what can we do??? Say a prayer, drop off supplies or make a donation...
Count your blessings...There, but for the grace of God, go I...

Over the last three weeks, I have easily watched parts of 15-20 college football bowl games...In just about each and every matchup, there's one moment in the game that just leaves me shaking my head...
It happens when someone makes a run, catches a pass, scores a touchdown or makes a sack...Too many times, the player acts as if he is the first person in the history of football to ever achieve that accomplishment...They dance and just go nuts...
One clown even caught a touchdown pass and then celebrated by kicking the football into the stands...Congratulations!!! You look like an idiot, and your team will now be kicking off from the 15-yard line because of the penalty...I know the referees did get a little carried away on more than one occasion this season for celebratory penalties (see GA vs. LSU)...
Back to the look-at-me offenders...These pinheads seem to be looking for their five seconds of fame and glory on SportsCenter...I think the 24-hour nonstop action on the monster that is ESPN is to blame for a lot of this...The look at me mentality is disappointing to say the least...
"When you get in the endzone, act like you've been there before."--Bear Bryant

It would be nice if more coaches follow the example of the man in the houndstooth hat...Georgia Southern fans know Erk Russell was the same way...He did not tolerate those kinds of shenanigans...I fondly remember Erk's motto of Big Team, Little Me....

I'm sure the players are only having fun, but I believe you can still celebrate without being classless...Hopefully we will soon reach the point where coaches will start to reel in the excessive, selfish behavior of some players...
Let's hope Nick Saban carries on the legacy of Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings Thursday night and brings home another national championship to Tuscaloosa...While I did not attend the University of Alabama, I have made that my division I-A school for about 15 years...
I worked in Anniston, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham in the mid to late 1990's, and you could not remain neutral...You had to pick either Alabama or Auburn...My dad always liked Bear Bryant and Alabama, and that's good enough reason for me to side with the Crimson Tide...
For the record, I am a graduate of Georgia Southern University, and while it took me six years to earn my four year degree, I can say the school won a national championship every year I was officially enrolled ('85, '86, '89 & '90)....
As we countdown to the Crimson Tide taking on the Texas Longhorns at the Rose Bowl Thursday night, imagine these words echoing through a locker room....
"What are you doing here? Tell me why you are here. If you are not here to win a national championship, you're in the wrong place. You boys are special. I don't want my players to be like other students. I want special people. You can learn a lot on the football field that isn't taught in the home, the church, or the classroom. There are going to be days when you think you've got no more to give and then you're going to give plenty more. You are going to have pride and class. You are going to be very special. You are going to win the national championship for Alabama."--Bear Bryant

Just because of the nature of my job in news, I have worked my share of holidays and missed out on being home for a lot of those special days...My Christmas would sometimes be a couple of days earlier or several days later...
Over the past few years, I've taken Christmas week off, and it's always nice to go home to Blackshear to spend December 25th with family and friends...
I am quite fond of random observations...Here are a few from my six days in Blackshear...
- No one in Blackshear wishes you happy holidays...In the stores there, the workers always say Merry Christmas...While shopping in Savannah before going home, all I heard here was happy holidays...Maybe it's the corporate culture of not wanting to offend anyone, but the last time I checked the calendar, I see December 25th is marked Christmas...So I hope everyone had a nice Hanukkah or a Merry Christmas...Now we're into Kwanzaa, and in just a few days, we'll tear a sheet off the calendar and start a new year...
- It is still strange doing Christmas duties that were always taken care of by my dad...It's now been five Christmases since we lost him, but it just doesn't feel right...
-
While opening gifts on Christmas morning, mom turns to me and says "look there's something else behind your chair...Be careful, and don't shoot your eye out." Nicely played...It was not a Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!

I'm back at work after burning some vacation time...The time away included a nice little mix of work and play...Here's a rundown of some of the random moments that filled my days and nights...
Day one of the vacation began with a mini-marathon of golf at Sterling Links in Richmond Hill...In eight hours of golf, I posted a 79, 82 and an 80...That 79 is my best round of the year...Here's the crazy thing about golf...I played again a few days later, and it was like I had not touched a golf club in months...
Whenever I take time off, I usually tackle a painting project at the house...No exception this time as I focused on improving the appearance of one of my bathrooms...It's amazing the difference what fresh paint and new lights can make...I would hate to know I had to earn a living as a painter...It can be tedious and time consuming...I understand why some painters drink so much on the job...
There was a little work for me to do on Friday...I serve on the broadcasting advisory board at Georgia Southern (my alma mater), and we joined the faculty for the Communication Arts department's Christmas luncheon...It was great seeing some of my old professors and catching up on what's going on there...
Georgia Southern just keeps growing and growing...There's talk on campus that the new incoming president wants to boost enrollment from the current 19,000 to 25,000 in four or five years...Where is everyone going to live and learn??? Looks like the boom in the 'Boro won't be slowing down...
Another good thing about a Statesboro visit--Dunkin' Donuts coffee...If crystal meth is anything like DD coffee, I have a better understanding of why people get hooked...For the record, no, I am not a meth head...
Why was there a woman in white dress walking down MLK Boulevard wearing a tiara Friday morning??? Oh, the things we see in Savannah...
Looking for a great steak??? Have the filet at Billy's Place above McDonough's...I feasted on it Friday night...Simply outstanding!!! One of the best steaks I've had in years...Great staff and a good conversation with Billy...
Took Roger Moss up on an invitation to check out Bow Ties and Bubbly Friday night at Hunt Club Custom Clothiers...Had a good conversation with a bow tie maker...I have about 50 bow ties hanging in my closet that I wore while working as a pharmaceutical rep and an off-air tv job...I love the way the look...I wore a bow tie on the air a few times in Albany, and I was surprised by the negative reaction from a few phone callers...It's a piece of cloth people...Maybe it's time to try a bowtie on air at WJCL...
Stopped by Coastal Pet Rescue's adoption drive at TailsSpin in Habersham Village and made a new friend...

Take a look at the photo and you see me with a six week old Savannah blend...I held Fawn for about 45 minutes, and she was absolutely perfect...Good news from Lisa Scarbrough...It appears Fawn will be adopted...She'll be living next door to the family who adopted her sister...

Saturday afternoon was all about football...Alabama vs. Florida...Great open by CBS to get into the game with former Alabama coach Gene Stallings and Florida coach talking about the rivalry of the SEC championship game that began in 1992...What a day for the Crimson Tide Nation of which I am a fan...The Tide Rolled...St. Nick Saban Celebrated...The Bear Smiled...What a night to be a Bama fan!!!
So now I'm back at work banging out words on my computer...Eleven more work days to go, and then it's vacation time again...Gotta love the Christmas season and hording vacation time for the holidays...

Somewhere along the way, people began making a fashion statement by showing the world their underwear and part of their anatomy by letting their pants fall below their hips...Why would one think that looks good??? Yep, you're right...Here comes another old man rant from me...Turns out, I'm not alone...
When I see those saggy pants, all I can do is shake my head and move on...It is certainly a generational thing...Some people say it is just teens or young adults expressing themselves...What if I expressed myself by strolling out in front of the camera in the studio tonight with my suit pants hanging halfway down to my knees??? Isn't that a nice visual burned into your brain right now??? It's a sight no one needs to see...
One southeast Georgia school community said no one deserved to see baggy pants and underwear in public...I witnessed the crackdown on seeing buttocks and boxers a few weeks ago...
Throughout this football season, I hit the road on Friday nights to shoot a couple of games to help our sports department...When the playoffs rolled around, my destination was Baxley...As I entered the Appling County HIgh School stadium, I caught the end of an announcement that certainly caught my attention...Did the public address announcer really just say that??? Several minutes went by, and then I got my confirmation...He said it again...
"If you are a male, and your pants are not at the natural waistline, you will be asked to leave the stadium."
Sweet...The Pirates of Appling County aren't playing around with these low riding pants anymore...I posted about this announcement on my Twitter and facebook accounts...Most all comments supported the move by Appling County High School....
I like it...I salute the policy and wish other schools would follow that example...
So if you're in Baxley on a Friday night during football season and want to watch the Pirates play, buy a ticket and come on in...Just make sure your pants are pulled up before you enter the stadium...

Every now and then you need a reality check to slap you in the face to make you aware of bad things going on in our community...The issue is child abuse, and your wake up call awaits you in front of the National Guard Armory on Eisenhower Drive in Savannah...That is where the 4th annual Child Abuse Awareness Healing Field is now on display...
It is a most memorable scene...There are 1,665 full sized American flags flying in the fall breeze...Each flag represents one Chatham County boy or girl who was abused or beaten in 2008...There is also a blue ribbon on each flag pole with the first name and age of an abuse victim...This is the work of The Coastal Empire R.O.C.K. Group...ROCK stands for Raising Our Children Kindly...
1,665 children...It's a staggering number...Those are the ones authorities know about...There is no telling how many other cases were not reported...
What kind of monster could hurt a defenseless child??? I am an old school, Old Testament guy when it comes to anyone who hurts a child...Punishment for the abuser should be swift and severe...Drop the hammer and hit 'em hard...You can only pray the boys and girls can overcome the physical and emotional scars of these horrifying ordeals...God bless the social services workers who deal with these cases each and every day...It scares me tho think about the images dancing around in their heads...
I made my way through the Healing Field Sunday afternoon...If you can't make it out there to see it in person, click on the flag in the photo below to see a slideshow of photographs I took during my visit...So if you have time between now and Sunday, November 15th, please make a stop at the Healing Field and do what you can to support The R.O.C.K. Group and end child abuse and neglect...
Unfortunately, we will see the field of flags again next year, but it sure would be nice to see a lot fewer of them flying and a lot more children smiling from their safe, loving homes...

Consider this your personal invitation to come out for a night of fun and refreshing beverages to support one of the most active and compassionate organizations I have ever seen...
Coastal Pet Rescue is holding the 2nd Annual Yappy Hour Blue Jeans Ball and Silent Auction on Saturday, November 14th...It'll be from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at American Legion Post 154 on Tybee Island...I have been invited to serve as emcee for Yappy Hour...Full disclosure here...WJCL and Fox 28 are the media partners with Coastal Pet Rescue...
It is going to be an entertaining evening, but I do see a problem for me with the Blue Jeans Ball...I don't own blue jeans...Haven't had a pair in at least five years...Even those were fake, old-man jeans from Dockers...I never have been a jeans guy...I am a khakis guy...You'll find about a dozen pairs of khakis hanging in my closet...I guess I need to go shopping for some jeans before Yappy Hour...
Lisa Scarbrough founded Coastal Pet Rescue in 2003...I believe I first met her in 2005...I just can't say enough good things about her spirit, drive and determination to make a difference in the lives of pets...What Lisa and her army of volunteers have accomplished in six years is simply amazing...There's no telling how many dogs and cats they've saved...There's also no telling how much joy those animals have brought to their new adoptive families...Coastal Pet Rescue has certainly been a blessing for humans, canines and felines...
Back to the big event on the 14th...There will be a silent auction, service awards, volunteer recognition and a lot of other things going on during the 240 minutes of Yappy Hour...
Tickets are only $20, and the group will certainly put your money to good use to control the area's pet population and help place dogs and cats into loving homes...
Please join me on Tybee Island on November 14th...I hope to be standing before you for Yappy Hour proudly wearing blue jeans...

So I have been trying to get this blog together since I got back from my trip last weekend...But you know how it goes...It takes a week to dig out from under all the stuff you missed while you were away...This was also the week to debut our new set and format...Time was a precious commodity last week...
Time to play catch up...I traveled to Washington, D.C. and Maryland for a surprise birthday party for one of my old roommates from St. Simons Island...During a future blog, I'll have to give more details on living with three girls...It was Lacy, Stacy, Tracey and Casey...life was good on the island...
So I was traveling for Lacy's surprise 40th birthday party...Let's just say it was a fun weekend...You know people always say getting there is half the fun...Fun??? I'm not so sure about that after a few observations I made along the journey...
parking, checking in and getting through security at Savannah Hilton Head International Airport is so much easier than the headache, heartache and hassle I've experienced in Atlanta...
oh, great...I have to buy a ticket for my suitcase, too...forgot about the surcharge to check a baggage...another 20-bucks...
passing time sitting in a rocking chair in the atrium...love the south...where people gather you can almost always find a rocking chair to relax...
watching people is fun...it's amazing how stressed out some people get at the airport...relax and take a deep breath people...it's gonna be okay...
enjoying seeing people peering down the ramp to all the gates waiting to catch a glimpse of their friends and families strolling up for a reunion...for some, it's been just a few days since they've last seen each other...for some though, i imagine it's been years judging by the tears, hugs and happiness...I wonder what their stories are???
so I get to the gate and have a seat...lots of empty seats all around and a family with two children ages three and one plant themselves right behind me...boy, are they loud...I understand they're children and that's what they do, but I seem to be a magnet for stuff like that...I'm thinking okay I'll deal with it how...chances are they won't be sitting any where near me on the plane...right??? I mean after all, there are 200 seats on the plane...what are the odds??? boys and girls, we call this foreshadowing...
get into my seat on the plane...everything is good...still quite a few empty seats all around me...here comes the family...they're getting closer and closer...yep, two rows up...they're wrestling with car seats, booster seats, bags....or at least the mom is...dad seems clueless...he just sits down...the crying and screaming begin...man, this is gonna be a long flight to Atlanta...I need a drink, but then i realize, this is a short flight...no beverage service....I give 'em credit, they did settle down once we got into the air...don't get me wrong, I am not anti-kid, they should just have their own places on planes like the smokers used to have...you know a nice padded, soundproof room...
we're late leaving Savannah...get to Atlanta and there's a stampede off the plane...some people only had 15 minutes or so to make their connections...luckily I have an hour to grab lunch, get a drink and move over to the next terminal...rainy weather has the Atlanta airport looking like something out of Mad Max...it's Thunderdome...patience is in short supply for both passengers and airline workers...the 2:20 flight finally takes off at 3:40...
the flight from Atlanta to DC is turbulent at times...felt like a ride on the vomit comet..
so we arrive in DC about 20 minutes late...not bad...then we sit on the tarmac for an hour waiting for a gate to open....the natives on the plane were getting restless after being caged up in the metal tube for 60 minutes...I understand now why there are often situations on board planes that sit idle for five or six hours...
the weekend was simple amazing and so much fun despite cool, rainy weather for all three days...we had a fantastic dinner at Occidental at the Willard Hotel and then saw Jersey Boys at the National Theatre...great music telling the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons...that evening wrapped up with a beverage at the rooftop bar at the W Hotel...neat standing there having a beer overlooking the White House...
we even found time to check out all the cool stuff in the Spy Museum...lots of neat gadgets in there...even saw ESPN's Bob Ley there...he was with his family, and I didn't want to bother him for a photograph...
one other note...if you're going to the Cheesecake Factory, try to red velvet cheesecake...wow...glad I skipped the oreo cheesecake this time...
the party was so much fun, and I'll leave out details to protect the guilty...
the weekend ended with an alarm going off at 5 a.m. Sunday to get up, drive to the airport and head home...I hate reality checks like that...there are certain times you just want to go on forever...this was one of them...but, back to the real world...
so there...after a week, I can now say I am officially caught up from my time away...I came home with a lot of great memories of a wonderful weekend with the girls...and I even got a blog out of the trip, too...just like our lawmakers, I did manage to get a little work done while in Washington...

We're just hours away from a big event at WJCL/Fox 28...So allow me to share some Bugs Bunny with you to set the mood...
"Overture, curtain, lights! This is it. The night of nights. No more rehearsing or nursing a part. We know every part by heart! Overture, curtain, lights! This is it. We'll hit the heights! And oh, what heights we'll hit! On with the show, this is it! Tonight what heights we'll hit! On with the show, this is it!"
Nothing like some Looney Tunes action from Saturday morning to describe what is happening on Abercorn Street tonight...
It's a big night for us at WJCL/Fox 28...Tonight at six o'clock, you will see what has been going on in our studio for the past six weeks or so...In previous blogs, I posted photos on the demolition of the WJCL news desk which I suspect was brought to Savannah by General James Oglethorpe...Yep, it was that old...
While we've been doing all of our newscasts from the blue living room set of our morning show, our studio renovation project has been underway...I must say that even I am a bit surprised by the results...We now have a much more modern look with HD monitors, brighter colors and more movement...Our anchors will no longer be chained to chairs and sitting behind a desk...We are on the move throughout the newscast...
After two weeks of rehearsals, I hope we all know what we are supposed to do and where we are supposed to be...Sure, there will most likely be some suprises along the way, but as I see it, this is tremendous progress for our station...Our look as advanced at least 20-years...
It is going to be fun, and I hope you like our new look and format for our news at 6, 10 and 11...
I started with Bugs and will close with Porky Pig...That's all folks!!!

Congratulations to me!!! I am among the thousands of losers in the National Geographic amateur photography contest....So there will be no trip to the Galapagos Islands for me...That was the grand prize...
A few months ago, I rambled on in a blog about entering a few photographs...

When I saw the finalists posted online, I understood why I didn't make the cut....
Click here to take a look at the photographs and be sure to vote....Impressive photos for sure...
So have you been looking for my photograph on the side of a milk carton??? I have been missing in action now for about three weeks because of a number of reasons...Nothing really exciting...If you care, here's a quick little recap...
We're staying busy on our studio renovation project...Our WJCL team finished in third place the the Backus Children's Hospital Kids Cash Golf Classic...I did see Jerry Seinfeld during his stop in Savannah...It wasn't a long show at all...He couldn't have been on stage for more than 75 minutes...But Sweet Fancy Moses!!! That was the most I have laughed in a long time...After the show, I made my first trip to Pinkie Masters...I am ashamed to admit that having lived here for nearly two years...
Still just playing a lot of golf at Sterling Links...I am getting close to breaking 80...In the last few weeks, I have posted an 80 and two 81's...The game is coming around...
Some of my favorite tv shows started their new seasons...I'm hooked on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Californication and Dexter...And, this one surprises some people--I'm a big fan of Glee...I'm channeling my inner band/choir geek...
I also got to hold my great-niece over the weekend...Little people make me nervous...

In the thought bubble above Kylie's head, I see these words: "Would a responsible adult please get me out of the arms of this guy. He has no clue what he's doing."
So that's it for what I've been up to since the last posting...
October is shaping up to be an unbelievably busy month...It starts Saturday at Forsyth Park...I hope you will be my buddy and join me for the 4th annul Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk Festival...Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the walk starts at 10:30 a.m....Click here to register and get more details...
I hope you will be my buddy...I'll be looking for you in the park Saturday morning...I'll have my camera in hand for the walk, and a few hours later, I'll put it down to pick up the golf clubs...Sounds like a great Saturday shaping up yet again...
